Detection against your own hand: what a personal style baseline is
A personal style baseline is a profile of your writing computed from your earlier texts. A new text is compared against it and the result is a deviation — how far this text differs from the way you usually write. A general detector cannot ask that question, because it does not know your older texts.
What goes into the profile
Average sentence length and its variation, word length, vocabulary richness, the share of long and short words, the share of diacritics and capital letters.
On top of that, the frequency of punctuation — commas, dashes, quotation marks, colons, brackets — and the frequency of common function words. People do not change these consciously, and that is exactly why they work as a signature.
When the baseline kicks in
It needs at least six of your earlier checks, each from two hundred and fifty characters upwards. Only texts that did not themselves come out suspicious go into the profile — otherwise the baseline would be spoiled.
Until you reach that threshold, only the general score is shown. That is not a fault; there is simply nothing to compare against yet.
What it is good for
It answers the question a general detector cannot: does this particular text fit your writing, or does it stand out from it.
For a teacher following one student over time, and for an author keeping an eye on their own hand, that is more useful than one universal percentage.
FAQ
Does a high deviation mean cheating?
No. It means the text is different from your usual writing. The reason can be something else — a different genre, a different topic, being in a hurry.
What if I write differently every time?
Then the profile will be wider and the deviation less sensitive. The baseline works best for people who write similar types of text.
Is a shared model trained on my texts?
No. The profile belongs to your account alone and serves only your own checks.
Try it on your own text
Paste a text or upload a file and look at the score and at the specific sentences that came out suspicious.
